Leírás:

Atoms and photons are basic entities which play crucial role in constructing quantum information processing devices, such as representation of qubits, realization of quantum gates, generation of single photons, etc. An important special case is when single photons interact with single atoms. In free space the coupling strength is very weak, hence in order to enhance the interaction strength high quality optical cavities are applied.

Less thoroughly explored field is the intermediate coupling between the atoms and light field. Bad cavities or some kind of antennas fall into this category. An example to such configuration is the dielectric nanopillar structure with embedded atomic scatterers. The nanopillar serves as waveguide to the emitted photons, hence they are radiated to a well defined direction.

The task of the candidate is to model the interaction of light with atoms embedded into dielectric nanostructures and explore the benefit of such configurations.
