Leírás:

This PhD topic is an investigation of the visible light radiation distribution of the Wendelstein-7X stellarator plasma. Wendelstein-7X is the world's largest superconducting stellarator, operating at the MPG Institute for Plasma Physics (Greifswald, Germany). During the study, the distribution of visible radiation at different temperature and density profiles and magnetic configurations should be examined on recordings made by fast and ultra-fast video cameras (QSV video diagnostics system). The toroidal asymmetry/symmetry of the radiation distribution should be investigated. This is made possible by ten EDICAM cameras installed in a toroidal symmetric way. The experimentally obtained radiation distributions should be compared with edge plasma simulations (e.g. EMC3-EIRENE).

Additionally, particular attention should be paid to the more coherent state after the injection of cryogenic pellets, in which a radiation zone appears in the center of the plasma, in addition to the usual radiation distribution. To understand the visible plasma radiation during pellet ablation ultrafast cameras should be used to determine the pellet particle deposition profile with the special attention to the pellet cloud drift which can strongly influence the particle deposition.

The student's task would be to perform these experiments on the Wendelstein-7X stellarator as a member of the video diagnostics team and to interpret the obtained results.
